Wednesday Dec 20

Maria Island

Finally a fine day - mostly sunny in the low 20's. We anchored but it was a short zodiac ride to shore.

Maria Island was the highlight of the cruise for us.It is a natural wildlife sactuary and retreat with historic ruins, sweeping bays, and dramatic cliffs.

There were guided walk options and zodiac tours to the painted cliffs. We choose to do 2 self-guided walks instead where we went to the painted cliffs by foot in the morning (as it was low tide) and did another walk in the afternoon (essentially the same as the morning guided walk).

The highligh was the many wombats which was we saw.
