Rothenburg

June 25-26

Rothenburg

We got up early and enjoyed a great breakfast at the Hilton compliments of our Gold status. I was also able to install my e-SIM after some difficulty.

By 8:15 we headed to SIXT at FRA airport and collected our car which had been "upgraded" from a BMW to a Volvo. This turned into a disaster as once we were underway  it became clear that the air-conditioning did not work - quite amazing on what appeared to be a new car. We drove on and I called SIXT from a rest stop on the autobahn - but all they could suggest was either bring it back to Frankfurt airport or wait until we got to Tuebingen and take it to the SIXT office there. So we drove on - it was about 30C outside and almost as warm inside - the only thing that helped was the aircon fan circulated the inside air.

We arrived in Rotherburg around 11:30am and found our hotel in the old town without any drama (for a change 😎). After checking in and cooling off in our air-conditioned room we walked around the old town and stopped for an early lunch at a local "biergarten".

We continued walking around the old town for a couple of hours then headed back to our (air-conditioned) hotel to shower and rest before dinner.

We had dinner at a nice restaurant on the square of the famous St Joseph Church - it was really busy so we had to sit inside. The service was excellent but the food relatively average - huge portions which we could not possibly finish. Then it was back home to bed.
